This workshop examines best practices on how to design and modify spreadsheets so that your data collection and analysis is more efficient and accurate. Topics covered include:

  • Spreadsheet layout
  • Managing multiple worksheets
  • Table formatting
  • Special number formats
  • Data validation and drop-down lists
  • Conditional formatting
  • Named ranges
  • Data protection (locking cells, encryption)
  • And additional design and format tips and tricks!

“The majority of spreadsheets that I come across are set up in ways that make analysis more challenging than it needs to be, and they also do not have mechanisms to enforce data consistency, making analysis even more difficult without first going through the long process of cleaning data. Investing in proper layout and data rules saves substantial time! Also, how you design a spreadsheet should be driven by how you plan to use the data.” (Alec Muthig, instructor)

Date/Time: Jul.21, 9:00-11:00 AM (mountain) +30-minute optional practice exercise after class
